Soldering Intensive with Daniel Valencia

green flame1 day Soldering Intensive. In this workshop you will learn how to solder sterling silver correctly and with confidence. Students will be soldering sterling silver utilizing tension, sweat, and pick methods. Using Oxygen/Propane little torches students will learn the proper way to protect their metal from oxidation. Students will spend the day practicing the various techniques in Sterling Silver. Equipment lists and setting up your home soldering station will be covered.  Hours are 9:00 to 4:00.  Location is JewelryClassDC at 1502 Massachusetts Ave SE, Washington DC 20003.   The workshop fee is $225. All materials are included.  Hours are 9:00 to 4:00. Class size is limited to (10).

Metal 1 Introduction to Jewelry Making

3 day Metal I intensive! Introduction to Jewelry Making – This exciting Three day class teaches proper jewelry making techniques for beginners. Students will learn the correct way to file, saw, form, forge, solder Sterling Silver as well as make a stone setting and set stones, in an intensive workshop held in our beautiful studio, each student will create a minimum of (4) pieces of Sterling jewelry seated at a professionally equipped bench.  Correct tool usage and bench set up are emphasized. Workshop fee is 545.00  All materials and lunch are provided. Hours are 9:00 to 5:00. Class size is limited to (12).

Prong setting

Prong Setting Intensive Come learn how to prong set faceted stones with Daniel Valencia, he has taught hundreds of metalsmiths this technique. In this two-day workshop you will learn how to prong set faceted stones correctly and with confidence. Students will be setting faceted stones of varying sizes in sterling silver. Setting fabrication will be demonstrated. Proper tools, layout and several approaches to finishing your prongs will be covered.  Location is JewelryClassDC at 1502 Massachusetts Ave. SE Washington, DC. The workshop fee is $395. All materials are included.  Hours are 9:00 to 4:00. Class size is limited to (12). Lunch is provided.

Metal II 3 day intensive

3 day Metal II Intensive! Prerequisite: Metal I or comparable experience. Metals II has different projects each semester. This exciting 3 day class will be challenging and rewarding. Students have creative freedom in the execution of these projects. Explore further the techniques introduced in Metal I. Forging, fusing, hollow forms, and advanced stone setting are the focus. All Metal II students learn to flush set faceted stones. Practice heavy bezel settings with hammer and punch. Fabricate hollow rings, Develop and create your own ideas. Fees $470/8 weeks plus $75 materials fee (includes sterling and semi precious stones) Total: $545.00

Electro Etching with Vera Meyer

vera's engravedIn this one-day workshop you will learn how to electro-etch silver using safe low-voltage electricity and a solution of silver nitrate. You will learn three resist methods for applying your image to the silver prior to etching. After taking the workshop you will be able to create your image directly on the metal or use any black and white image on your computer. You will also learn how to easily set up the electro-etching system in your studio. During the workshop you will electro-etch three pieces of silver that you can later incorporate into your own jewelry. Etched silver will add dimension and perceived value to your work. The workshop fee is $225. All materials are included. Hours are 10:00 to 4:00. Class size is limited to (8).
