Fall 2017 Metals III Classes

Metals III – Take your jewelry to the next level with advanced fabrication and more stone setting techniques

Focusing on fabrication and stone setting this session of Metals III is led by Daniel Valencia and will involve some very exciting projects including a heavy hinged and locking Sterling bracelet, an eternity style stone set ring, as well as prong and flush setting intensives. Students will carve the hinges and clasps of this impressive bracelet, 8 mm x 2.5 mm, suitable for a man or woman this project will provide an opportunity for carving, flush setting as well. Next we will fabricate and set an eternity style ring using the “scoop and split” method. Prong setting of faceted stones will be demonstrated and practiced extensively by each student. Whether you are a jeweler looking to increase your spectrum of work or are a bench jeweler trying to find a job in the industry, this class will provide you the knowledge and practice to help you toward your goals.

This is a (8) week, 24 hour class. The format of this class will be different from the other offerings at Jewelryclassdc in that there will be more focus on process and technique. While you will be able to embellish your piece, the focus of this session will always be process!!! Professional Bench Jeweler/Instructor Daniel Valencia will be sharing his hard won experience as he guides you through these challenging techniques. Class size is always 12 students or fewer.

Prerequisites: Metal I and Metal II or comparable experience.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Metal III students are encouraged to attend open studio sessions, each Sunday 9-2, free of charge.

Fees
$465 /8 weeks plus $80.00 materials fee (includes sterling and semi precious stones)

Classes are filled on a first come first serve basis.

Open Studio
Non-directed studio time is available 9–2 pm every Sunday during the regular 12 week session for Metal III students or students with equivalent experience. Students work on their own designs. Space is limited, available on a first come first served basis. To reserve an Open Studio session, you must send a request to dvalencia@jewelryclass.dc in advance.

Current Metal III students may sign up for Open Studio free of charge.
